Hi, I am Shelli. Mother of three children, ages 19, 13 and 10. My 10 year old is a boy and he is nearly 11. I have had the weight since my last pregnancy and have continued to add to it, especially during the last six years in which I have had an unusual amount of stress. In my childhood, adolescence and early adulthood I never had a problem with weight. I was probably considered underweight during highschool even though I ate whatever and whenever I wanted. As we all probably know, those habits have a way of catching up with your body and after each pregnancy, it became harder and harder to take off the weight.
As for my weight loss goals, I want to be healthy, have more energy and of course, I would like to be thin. In October of this year, we are planning a trip to Florida and I would really like to swim with the dolphins. (I love dolphins! When we went the last time, the highlight of our trip for me, other than seeing the joy of my children, was petting the dolphins at Sea World. The experience was almost spiritual and actually left me in tears.) But in order to do that, you have to put on a wet suit and I want to be able to do that without shame or embarrassment for me or my children. When I told my son about my wish to do this, he laughed and said, “Mom, you will look like a beach ball.” He wasn’t trying to be mean and he apologized right away, but it still hurt. He is my biggest support, other than my husband, in our family. He always has been. He is encouraging and always has praise. For him and for myself, I don’t want to look like a beach ball. I have 73 pounds to go. I currently belong to the YMCA and I also attend Weight Watcher meetings every Saturday morning. I will, therefore, only be posting a weight once a week, but I will log my other achievements and struggles.
I am excited to get started and am looking forward to getting to know all of my other P2G friends. Good luck to you all.

You can do it, Shelli, and I think having a lot of positive support around will help. Plus, you have great goal and timeline.

Shelli - I joined Weight Watchers as well, but I don’t actually go do the meetings. I have found that the Online system they offer is the perfect venue for me. It’s less expensive and given that I’m always in front of a computer, it’s very easy for me to track everything I eat - from the first cup of coffee to the very last piece of candy I steal out of my candy jar.
I have faith in the WW system, now it’s up to you to make it work!

You’re already determined, which is half the battle when you think about it. Do you keep a food journal too? Are you able to change foods in your household without upsetting everyone? When you have others in the house and THE MOM decides to eat something different, we end up making 2 different meals.
Aside from the video you’ve talked about, do you have any other exercise equipment at home? How much “you” time do you get in a day?

Wow, how amazing that you’ve come so far - congratulations! If you’ve gone this far, I am confident that you will be able to go all the way!!!

I have done WW meetings before and it definately does work. I think its the public weigh in that did it for me, I didn’t want to be the one who didn’t lose anything that week so I stuck to the program like glue! It all got a bit expensive for my budget though…but it does work…Good luck! You can do it!
Take Care,

Ivory and PJ, you would think that the public weigh in’s would keep me honest, but not always so.
I just need to stay on program and it will all be good. This venue really helps me to keep my mind on it so that it is more a part of me.
Thanks for your support, guys.

How cool would that be to swim with the dolphins?!
You can so meet your goal -or be close to it by October!
Is the Y close to you? If not, you’re anything like me, you’ll start making excuses - no gas, I’m tired, no child care, etc. So may I suggest renting or checking out Walk Away The Pounds? It’s awesome! And the best part is you can do it in your t shirt and undies right at home!
I, too want my kids to be proud of how I look. It’s important! You’re important!

That determination will take you to the top!
