Picky eaters anyone?

Question: One of my biggest faults is that I am a RIDICULOUSLY picky eater. I don’t have any allergies, however: I don’t eat seafood, the only fruit I eat is apples, I eat very few vegetables (and most of them are starchy) . . . I’m a horrible eater! I’ve been this way all my life, and my brother is the same way. It drives our mom batty, LOL! We won’t eat half the food she cooks for the holidays! I’ve tried to eat different foods, but I just don’t like them. I often feel like a five-year-old. Do y’all have any suggestions to help me change this?

Well, first off–even with kids it takes about 10 introductions of food to like something.

Also, you may hate veggies, but may like them if they were marinated, or maybe grilled. Or pureed and hidden in something else.

I hide pumpkin in baked goods–it replaces egg and oil in some things I make.

I eat Dr. Praeger’s vegan burgers–lots of veggies hidden in there.

Anyway, those are some ideas to start :)

Pumpkin, huh? That doesn’t sound too bad! Maybe there are some recipes online that I can find for that . . . thanks!

I’m a picky eater too - I don’t like many veggies or fruit.

Veggies for me? Lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, celery, canned sweet corn, that’s it!

Fruit - banana, apples, oranges, seedless grapes, that’s it!

I have found that I can get my “veggie” serving by drinking a V-8. Not sure how you feel about those.

If you don’t like veggies/fruit, you could always consider supplementing them with natural vitamins that give your body the missing things you need.

Otherwise, I’d say focus on finding new [healthy] ways to prepare the things you DO like. :) I still eat pizza and macaroni & cheese - I just make them differently or eat better the next day. :)

Unfortunately for me, there aren’t many things I won’t eat. My problem is getting my cravings to quit being so picky!

One way to get over the things you don’t like, is to find new ways of preparing them, mixing them, and serving them. There are a lot of ideas on the web, and hopefully we can recreate some here!

I pretty much like all fruit and veg - trouble for me is i also like chocolate, ice cream crisps…lol!

Definately try other ways of preparing the veg though.

What about homemade veg soup? Just throw in some veg (onion, carot, leek, swede…whatever else) a bit of stock, some herbs and cook till veg is tender. You could leave it like that or blend it smooth. Add some lentils if you like?

Veggie curry? - Grab some veg - throw in a pan with a couple of tins of chopped tomatoes, some curry powder/paste and some herbs….again just cook till veg is tender. I sometimes put lentils in that too.

Puree up some veg - doesn’t matter what really - and put it in a tomato sauce to have with spagetti or to use as a sauce for homemade pizza?

Just some ideas. :-)

I am a very picky eater. It doesn’t seem like it since I love fruits and vegetables.
My body lets me know when I want them. If I am craving vegetables, I will buy lettuce and a red peper and a cucumber and eat them. But not together. I eat salad, but when I crave the food, can’t eat them together. I will eat the lettuce then the pepper then the cuke. dipping them in dressing then jumping up and down. :)
Fruit is the same way. If I want it, I want it then. Apples usually.
I am not a big meat eater. Again, if my body is needing it, I will hit McD’s for a burger but that is very rare. Unless I am starving, then it’s a good protein kick. I just started eating chicken again. Sauteed with broc and mushrooms in garlic. Yummy.
I never eat chicken on a bone. It took me 15 years to be able to eat cutlets that weren’t fried and looked like chicken.
So how am I a picky eater. I just am. Drives my family crazy…can we go out to eat here, is there stuff Rachel will like. Usually I can find some sort of pasta dish or a vegetarian meal.

Good luck
