Day 1

I hate dinnertime. It’s hard. D said that she eats at night. I commented that I do the same thing.

I live alone. So there is no one to cook for besides me. I don’t mind cooking. But single portions are sad. I do the right thing. I make enough and put some away for lunch the next day. But then it starts calling me, or I will see something on TV that depresses me and I go and eat and eat and eat.

I start so well. I had fruit loops for breakfast. 3 g of fat in 1 & 1/4 cup. Not bad. I drank a bottle of water and had an orange and water for lunch. Catch what’s missing there. Protein. Not one lick of protein. I am going to make hard eggs and bring them for breakfast. 2 hard eggs. one yolk, 2 whites. protein should help. I know when you eat protien you aren’t as hungry as quickly. It’s true. But I am not a meat/chicken person. Ohhhhh fish..I like fish I have frozen flounder in the freezer. If I make 2 pieces with pasta on the side. and some salad, go me.

I am joining WW at work. I am going to miss one meeting due to being away (ironically for work) but that’s ok. I need the support. Does anyone else find they do better when they know they are paying for it.

I also am writing down what I eat and drink. Water, soda, eggs, fruit, whatever. If it goes in the mouth, it gets written. There is actually a rhyming phrase from WW that says that, but I don’t remember it.

I weighed myself this morning. I was not happy. But I am making the start.

Thanks everyone for the comments and support.

PlainJane. I got here through you and I know we can do it.
Veronika - It’s great having the gym there but also makes for laziness…do I make the right and go to the gym or the left and go home…it’s dark and rainy or snowy - home wins. I am hoping that as it gets darker later, it will be easier to make that right to the gym

Lindsey - I know you will influence me the same way. You are getting a good start…I lost it in College and never got it back. That’s when I started gaining.. Being away, going home, being away. It’s tough.

Jade, I am glad that you understand the time frame. I need the kick to start but can’t do anything serious until everything is better time wise.

Ivoryfrog, makes perfect sense. I know the real me is inside someplace. She’s happy and is waiting for the rest of the world to see her. Hopefully by this time next year, she will be seen.

Running2k - Together, we can conquer the world.

Don’t be too hard on yourself about protein. People don’t need as much protein as has been promoted lately. Fiber also helps with a feeling of fullness (grains, beans, veggies, etc.) You are right on track. Writing things down helps a lot!

Writing it all down is a great thing! It helps you to see what you’re eating/drinking in a day and visually aides in identifying the things that leave you feeling less satisfied, allowing for changes to slowly be made! You’ve got a wonderful attitude towards your goals! Keep going girl and don’t get discouraged over protiens!

You are making some really good, positive changes, Rachel. I think you have it all in your head. We will be there to help you put it all into action.

Good idea about writing everything that goes in my mouth down. I had forgotten that piece of advice. Thanks for reminding me, it seems like you had a good day.

I totally know how you feel about the living alone part!!! It is hard to cook for just one. Most of my recipes are from my mom, and while they are mighty tasty, they’re not particularly healthy, and they’re portioned out for a family! I’ve only got one semester of college left, and I’m leaving way heavier than I entered (which was 10 pounds too heavy)!

I have to figure out WHY I eat at night and then always ask, am I hungry or hurting? If hurting, then I try and deal with that instead of eating. Keep posting!

Combing a protein with a carn definitely helps, but you don’t really need a lot of it at one time. One egg. A couple ounces of chicken or turkey. Soy… It’s easy to get in even if for people who don’t like protein based foods. ‘Course, this comes from someone who blows it off way too often…

Writing down what you eat and drink is so important! You have to do it straight away though….thats the thing. If you leave it till the end of the day you tend to forget the little bite there, little nibble there….it happens and I think those little bites add up quite a bit sometimes. Can you tell I am talking from experience here? LOL. Yesterday I had to ask Leigh what I had eaten as I couldn’t remember. He knew what I had eaten but I didn’t. He is thin and I am…well not. There has to be something in that right?
