A Few Tips I’ve Picked Up Over The Years

Vegetables are your friend–no one ever got fat eating vegetables. They’ll fill you up and help stave off those times when you want to cave into a craving.

Combining a low glycemic carb with a protein helps you feel full faster and not feel hungry between meals.

Drink water–most people don’t drink enough and sometimes mistake hunger for thirst. The average adult should drink about 2 liters a day. Another guideline is .6 ounces per pound of body weight. Any more than that is overkill, and it is possible to drink too much.

Weigh every day–newer studies show that people who weigh themselves every day at roughly the same time are more successful at keeping lost weight off.

Keep a food diary–it helps to see exactly what you’re eating; you can go a step further and write down the times of day you’re eating in order to track patterns and break bad habits.

Aim for no less than 1200 calories a day for women and 1500 for men. Any less on a regular basis can screw up your metabolism. And remember, 1100 one day and 1300 the next averages out.

Don’t beat yourself up over minor slip ups and occasional indulgences. We have to live in the real world, and the real world includes some pretty tasty things.

Exercise, both cardio and weights. Remember that 60-70% of weight loss results come from diet; the exercise can help maintain skin integrity and heart health.

Ok…now add the tips you’ve picked up along the way…

All good tips and doesn’t matter how many times it’s said. The more often you read it, the better change of it sticking.

Adding a protein to the vege or carb is a good idea. One little egg, some nuts, soy, which, ewwww, but I do love edamame (sp?)
I am going to try to start with soy milk, it has to help some right. And vitamins, If I can remember 21 days in a row to take a vitamin, it becomes a habit.

I think the weighing everyday might be helpful for some people, but for others it may end up discouraging them. I think, though, for KEEPING the weight off it is necessary to weigh daily. Our WW leader says to only think of the scale as ONE tool in a whole bag of tools you can use in your weight loss journey.

The problem with weighing in daily is that there are fluctuations day to day–so if you lose weight, you may think you can eat whatever. And if you gain, you’ll feel discouraged. At least that’s the problem for me–and why I stick to once a week.

Veggies are our friends. Let’s eat them!

Thumper, I didn’t think that you were saying you have to weigh yourself everyday…but for me personally, I can’t do that. I get to nuts if it’s the same or if its very different..How did I lose so much weight in one day. It’s whatever works for you.
