Grab a notebook, a pen - and write down everything you put into your mouth. Estimate ounces for fluids, calculate calories and account for every single bite in your day.
You don’t have to post your log, but I would like to get everyone to do it for at least one day so you can see if you have problem areas and check in here to at least say you did it.

I used to do this for WW–I recall my problem is definitely nighttime and picking off the kids’ plates!

Great Idea!

I don’t know if you pick off their plates as you clean them off the table or not, but that used to be a problem for me. Now my kids clean up their own plates and put them in the sink, I don’t do that so much anymore. Do they help with clearing the table?
I am doing this, Leanne. I am doing pretty well with it, too.

I will definately do this tomorrow (5th Jan) as today for me is nearly over…I have been trying to do keep a record but I don’t always do it as soon as I have eaten something and I think I have probably forgotten some of the things I have eaten. I am definately a “picker” - not of my child’s plate - more when I am in the kitchen cooking it in the first place or even out of the fridge when I am cleaning up afterwards!
This is especially dangerous for me at this time of year because of all the festive food still lingering around…..
Great Idea

Great Idea!! I will start this tomorrow!

You know, my dietician has put me on every single diet of some kind or another. While none of them worked in their own right, I’ve taken tidbits from each one to combine to create my own diet. I do know, that one of the major things is proportions. Obviously, the other is calories. By measuring proportions (difficult at first, especially while you’re busy as a bee in the kitchen) you really become in charge of your food intake rather than the food being in charge. Even for snack foods. Measure, weigh, and count!

I’ve kept a food diary for a long time…even on thise days when I don’t want to admit the crap I’ve put in my mouth. It really does help–like today, I *had* to split a piece of cake with the Spouse Thingy (yes! I HAD to! LOL)…since I know exactly what else I’ve already eaten, I can make better choices for later today. Like, only 12 cookies instead of 20

Oh, Thumper, you make me laugh!

I am doing that. I am not doing the calories/fat thing but just writing down what I put in my mouth. It helps because it makes you aware of what you are eating. And if your lazy like me, you don’t want to write something down, so you don’t eat it. It’s the sticking to writing it down that is the hard part.

I did this for a few weeks before finding this site and found that it was sweets that was a huge problem. My DH likes little chocolates when he gets a big project in (he works from home) and so of course I like to dip in. THen with birthdays and holidays, friends and family kept bringing in sweet things. And I’ve found that I have no control over ice cream so it’s a complete no-no unless I can buy in single serve portions or go out to a place like Baskin Robbins and buy a cone.

Yup, I’m working on this!!! Part of WW is entering everything into my Points Tracker! It’s amazing how many things I won’t eat when I really think about the points!

This is the only way I’ve managed to be successful with my WW Online. I’m glad to see you challenge others to this task - it truly is eye opening.
