My Life is Like a Woman’s World Magazine

My biggest weakness is the Woman’s World magazine sitting there in the rack in the checkout at Sprawl-Mart. There’s always some smiling woman proudly proclaiming she’s lost half her weight with these easy steps that take a page and a half to explain. I’m a sucker for it, I buy it every week. I take the magazine home, anxiously flipping to this week’s diet to see if somehow, some way I’d find the way to lose all my extra weight. And I’ll try some of them… for about a day and a half, and then I’m back to my own eating habits and the magazine lands itself in my basket. I probably have over a hundred of them sitting there.

I never go back to a diet I’ve started, I never stick with it. I’ve tried The Zone, South Beach, Weight Watcher’s, Carb Addict, Flylady’s Body Clutter, and a big pile of books I’ve read, but never retained. I don’t know if it’s the diet or it’s me. (probably me) But I need to find the thing that’s going to work… the thing that I can stick with.

I’ve read that it takes 21 days to form a habit. I’ve maintained SB for probably a couple of months, and yet, it still never stuck.

And each week, I start something new.

I need the trick that’s going to make me stick with this. And I’m pretty sure that trick is in my head. Not in a magazine. Not in a book. Not even in this really cool blog. I just need to figure out what it is.

Keep bouncin’ those ideas around vocally, and one of these days it will stick! Be it here, or IRL. They say vocal repetition retains information better than reading, and it will also help to change your mental outlook too! We’re here with you!

Some day, something will just click inside your head and you will say, “I get it now”! The key for me is that I have to remember that it has to be livable, because this is something I need to do for the rest of my life. You can do it, PinkPen. (lol, I was just going to type PP, but then thought better of it.:))

For me I KNOW how to eat and I KNOW I have to exercise. I have tried all those diets, too. I don’t need more books or fads. I need support like this blog.

I am crazy busy, but have to learn to put myself first.

It’s all about loving yourself… You will get it.

The more you try, the better chance you have of it sticking. 2 lbs here and 2 lbs there add up. Hopefully, the support here will help. :d

Wow, do I understand, and it’s not easy to find what works for you. Took me 16 of my adult years to figure it out :duh:

Hang in there!

I’m a sucker for those magazines too. They look so good and they make it sound so easy.

Findign that “right” thing is hard…for me it was Nutrisystem, and even though I only did it for a couple of months, the portion control stuck. But before that…I floundered.

Support helps a LOT…this place is gonna be awesome!

Those magazines suck me right in too… every time.
In fact all “diets” get my attention even though I *KNOW* there is no quick fix to losing 83lbs! I even phoned in for the Richard & Judy (UK TV program) “drop a dress size before christmas” diet sheet at a cost of £1.50 fo the call - it arrived 2 weeks after I made the call which was the week before christmas…I looked at it and knew I wouldn’t do it - every day for breakfast was porridge…and I hate porridge.
Take Care

I hope that as you see results you find out that you found something that works. Maybe it will be one little change that will kickstart it all. Hugs and support to you!

I hope you find something that works for you, too. I know we are all different and what works for one person may not work for another. I’m trying the quality foods in small portions with water and exercise method. I’m also looking at it from a lifestyle philosophy rather than a diet. It’s all in our heads, in the end.

Only you can make you stick with it. That’s the hardest part - there isn’t a “trick” or a “diet” that works for everyone and what you have to come to realize is that you’re the only one who can drive you to healthiness.

I, too, get sucked in by those magazines, and while I never stick to their diet plans either - I often can find one or two tidbits to help me on my own path (like drinking green tea to help flush toxins from my body!) :)
