Week One…a big flop

Well, I weighed in today. I am almost too embarassed to post this, but I guess someone out there maybe might relate (I hope). I LOST NOTHING. In fact, somehow I managed to gain .2 pounds! I contribute this to the clothes I had on versus what I wore for my first weigh in.

The odd thing is, I really thought I’d lost a pound or two, based on my scales at home. So, I’m not sure what the deal is. I just know I feel embarassed, angry, and the whole gamet of emotions. I have been here before…I know what these feelings can do to me if I let them.

So, I’m going to vow to go back next week and have double the loss to make up for the first week of nothingness. I did work out hard this week. I ate right minus two days of eating a little too much at dinner, although it wasn’t a huge amount even then.

For me, losing weight is not as easy as just cutting back. It is complete disciplined eating and I guess, at least at first, it will be eating even less. I will have to get used to the hunger and do this. I don’t have a choice. I must lose weight for medical reasons.

So, wallowing in this is not going to work this time. I have to get back on the horse, so to speak. We’re having friends over tonight, and one is a fellow Weight Watcher. I will be embarassed to tell her of my lack of progress in the first week, when most people have thier biggest successes. But, I will. And, we’ll dine on Weight Watchers friendly food and I’ll move on.

I have no choice but to move on and not let this go. Next week must be different.

Don’t let the scale hurt you. If you are weighing on different scales, different times of day (and different clothes, as you said), it makes a difference. Use one scale as your guide, and how your clothes feel.

Please don’t be discouraged. I know you can do it!

It’s the WORST when you have done everything right — eaten proper food in the right portions, exercised, battled the cravings, drink lots of water. And our reward? No change on the scale or a gain. It’s terribly discouraging. Don’t give up. I guess sometimes it takes weeks for something to happen.

Don’t get discouraged. Some days and weeks are good and you lose 2 to 3 pounds. Other weeks are bad. Whatever is causing you to not lose weight work on it or with it and don’t give up especially if your weight loss goals are in relation to health related issues.

Have you taken your measurements lately? If you haven’t, grab yourself a little notebook and a fabric tape measurer and do that. Bust, waist, hips, and thigh. Measure at the largest areas - if that’s where your body stores it, that’s where it will come off first.

Some people just don’t see results on the scale first, they see it and feel it in their clothes. You could be doing the exact right combination of things this week to promote fat burn and muscle gain, so your progress won’t even be detected by a scale.

Take your measurements weekly before you weigh-in, that way YOU know your results regardless of the scale display.

Don’t be too discouraged…you may find, if you stay on track, that next week you’ll have a large loss. I understand what you mean by feeling “embarrassed and angry” — been there, done that. But that’s the great thing about a support group like this…no one judges you. I think it’s just as important to report our less successful weeks as it is to write about the good ones. :)

When I was going to WW I was the only one on their diet who gained weight! After 6 months I was so down I couldn’t believe it. The problem was that their diet wasn’t right for me. I went to my doctor and talked to him. (cried) What we found was that I was insulin resistant and needed a whole new diet approach.
So don’t get down on yourself. See how you do, but if you really have a problem and you know it’s not what you are doing as far as teh prescribed diet you are on, then go to your doctor and talk to him/her.
Whatever you do, don’t give up!

The scale is a frustrating piece of work, isn’t it? Try not to put too much stock into it. You’re doing right to your body and that’s important. Eventually the scale will reflect the changes your body feels. Keep going!

Can you not post a comment back on here? Testing this out because I posted one earlier that seems to have disappeared. Thanks to everyone for your wonderful and supportive words. I am sure next week will go better!

But at least you didn’t gain, not really. That is a plus. Our bodies can be weird, you might lose a lot next week. We can put it on easily enough, but getting it off is a whole different story.

Please remember that you didn’t gain that weight in a week, so it makes a little sense that it won’t come off that fast either. :)

Hang in there - we’ve all been there!

Now don’t you worry. For all you know, that .2 pounds could be just water weight, which your body really should have to begin with.
