Today we’re off to the larger farmers’ market in nearby Oakland. I ususally walk with the baby every Tuesday morning to the small farmers’ market nearby, but today we need a change of pace and it’s a beautiful sunny morning. If you have a farmers’ market near your home, I HIGHLY recommend it. I do realize that many of you live in places where farmers’ markets are not available in winter — I’m spoilt living here in California… but go in spring and summer whenever you can!
It’s so fun to shop and to also try fruit and vegetable varieties that aren’t offered in the grocery store. Farmers’ markets offer up the freshest produce, you can sample it and also talk to the vendor about how to prepare it. Often times the price is less expensive as well. It sure gets me excited about eating my fruits and vegetables! Often I will purchase what looks good, then once at home I will look for recipes online or in my cook books to see different way to prepare it. I’ll post again later to share with you what I bought today.

I’m so envious! Our farmers market is in a less than savorty section of town and I’m not fond of going there. Fortunately, our Safeway has a fantastic selection… too bad it costs so much there!

I love going to the Farmers Market. Haven’t been there in a long time. And yes, aren’t we fortunate here in California to have it year round?!?! Let us know what goodies you got. I may have to take a trip to ours next week.

That sounds awesome. I love fresh fruits and vegetables. We have a produce market not too far away, but living in Minnesota doesn’t allow us to have farmer’s markets in the winter time. Darn! :bawling:

I would love to be able to go to a farmers market but there isn’t even one near me! :bawling:

I love the markets by us–alas, in the summer, but it is always a treat.
