A little tidbit that floated back into my brain as I was dumping Splenda on my oatmeal this morning:
1 cup of Splenda has 96 calories.
Those little packets of artificial sweeteners actually have 4 calories each.
The law allows companies to market them as calorie free because they are under 5 calories/serving.
I think it filtered into the gray matter this morning as I was contemplating the 20 packets of Splenda I use Every.Single. Morning. That’s an extra 80 calories, and if I went by the package info, I’d think it was calorie-free…

Wow. Good point!

I had no idea, thanks for the info! I guess that is why the weight loss experts always tell us to READ the labels.
12:24 pm
wow I had no clue. Thanks for the info, gonna really think about it before I use it all the time.

Great timing as I just got a sugar free latte and didn’t count the calories from the flavor, just the milk.
Thanks for keeping me honest.

That is interesting. I am glad to know that because I don’t like Splenda. I prefer Equal.

*shudder* I have the worst time with those fake sugars - and holy crap that’s a lot of Splenda
Like Shelli, if I absolutely can’t have sugar for my coffee, I’d go with the “blue stuff”.

It’s the little things that get you. And serving size…if something is 30 cal a serving, and it’s 3 servings a bag, that’s 90 cal, that most people don’t realize they are eating. It’s so annoying to have to do math to eat, but it’s the only way to watch what you are eating…that’s the other reason writing it down helps.
4:51 pm
Shelli, the same calorie counts apply to Equal…4 calories a pack, but they get away with calling it zero.
I’ll suck down either Splenda or Nutrasweet. It’s just gotta be sweet…and I’ve already had my brain tumor, so I should be safe
6:35 pm
It all adds up, but I guess it is better than sugar. Have you thought of Stevia (at the health food store?)
8:50 pm
Thanks! That’s really good to know.
