What do you think about

A free day every week, or 3 free meal (verses 3 in one day)? I’ve done Body For Life, twice, which is an intensive cardio/weightlifting/eating program for 6 days every week, for 12 weeks. But one day a week, you eat ANYTHING you want. A whole apple pie for breakfast. Go for it. Pizza and wings for dinner. It’s yours. A pitcher of margaritas…fine. And no exercise that day. The theory is that you’re doing so well 6 days a week, that your psyche really benefits as you work and sacrifice, knowing that in just a few days, you can have all that fudge. Or whatever. It helps you stay on plan the other days, and do it longer. You don’t typically just explode one day and eat everything in sight. I’m not working out that hard, by any stretch this time, so this’ll go slower, but it seems like a good idea. Yall?

That’s what Toby McGuire did while getting ready for either Spiderman or Seabiscuit. I don’t remember which, but I heard an interview with him once about his weight loss plan.

Also, another reason why it works is because it revs up your metabolism by making it think that all the time it is going to have to metabolize all that food, so when you slow down the rest of the week, it doesn’t figure out right away that it has to slow down, too. So it metabolizes at the same rate.

There is a plan called The Wendie Plan, and you can find it here: http://groups.msn.com/pointingmywaytoanewlife/theoriginalwendieplan.msnw
It explains it much better than I do.

You can certainly try it and see if you’re happy with your progress. If not, knock out the free day, or make other modifications to it, and see if you can get where you want to be while doing it.

If you are happy, then go for it!

I dated a body builder who believed in that - he ate the STRICTEST diet during the week but Saturdays were his “binge” day and I swear it was frightening, he could eat an entire extra large pizza in one sitting.

I think I’ll stick to moderation on a daily basis and watch out for slips… otherwise, I might slip every day!

I did BFL way back on the day…even got to chat with Bill Phillips a couple of times and got a few freebies :) It was spiffy. Unfortunately, I was in so much pain at the time that I couldn’t hack the high intensity cardio.

I’ve believed in the free day concept ever since (though there are some people for whom a free day is too difficult because it turns into a free weekend, then a free week…) It helps your body realize it’s not starving and doesnt need to store extra. Plus, it keeps you from going on a rampage in the local Dunkin Donuts when you just can’t take it anymore…

To a degree I used to do that on WW–I’d save points for one splurge night. One thing I am noticing now is the less I get dessert, the less I crave it.

It sounds like it could be a good idea. I will have to see how I do the first couple of weeks though.
