Back to work

I went back to work this week and while I found Clara a total inspiration, I still didn’t manage to get up and work out before work. I did, however, eat salad, drink a TON of water (easy to do when you teach) and always used the stairs to my office on the third floor. I climbed them about six times each day. I can’t believe how hard it is to go up three flights of stairs with a computer bad. Holy Cow I’m out of shape.

My goal is to work out as long as I’m not running a fever. I’m sick now (work germs) ;-) and will work out with a cold. Hoping to clear it up and get on with healthy life soon. :-)

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The good? I wrote down every single morsel I ate today; drank 96 oz of water (so far) and actually went for a short walk.
The bad? Those [damn] peanuts! I had about a half cup late this afternoon (after swearing I wouldn’t touch another one…so much for willpower) which put me about 300 calories over my carefully calculated total for the day. So, out the door the peanuts went to the neighbors’ kid.
The ugly? How I’m feeling right now about my apparent lack of willpower. Geez! I’m going to do a strictly fluid day tomorrow to see if I can’t jump start those scales again. Time for a pot of Weight Watcher’s Zero Point soup. I make me so angry! :duh:

Yeah, I was right…

Well, sigh, 2 of the 4 pounds were back on this morning. AND, my son is home with strep through so I didn’t get to go to aerobics today. He’ll be home tomorrow too, so I’ll have to hope my hubby will go into work later so I can go for a run early in the morning.

By the way, for any fellow Weight Watchers, the latest magazine has a triple recipe where you make Spaghetti Bolognese one night, use the leftovers to make Stuffed Greek Bell Peppers and then use the last bit of sauce on the last night to make Chili. The spaghetti was very flavorful, but not that saucy. Still it was decent. The stuffed bell peppers were VERY good and the chili was pretty good too.

If you have the magazine, give it try. Each were in the 4-5 point range without adding any bread or anything on the side. It made for great lunches/dinners for me this week!

POUNDS TO GO: 30 (just started the program  and am on week 2)

Miss Chirpy Strikes Again!

I thought that maybe last week Miss Chirpy was just excited to see so many people at the meeting and that this week she would calm down a bit. No such luck……the room is filled, people are chatting nervously, the lights flicker, there’s a super-hero theme song being played in the background, a flash of of light, a puff of smoke and there she stands…..

Miss Chirpy, who is now dressed as a super-hero. Her outfit consists of purple tights, black shorts, red shirt with A.B.C…. written on her chest. In addition she has on a black cape, purple scarf around her neck and long matching purple gloves. Her shoes are pink fluffy slippers and she is sipping on a cup of coffee (as if she needs more caffeine in her system!)

Miss Chirpy: ” Who am I people?” she shouts to the crowd.

Me: (hopefully not thinking out loud) “An escapee from the mental institution? Oh my gwad, maybe she’s had a head injury and doesn’t know either! I wonder if she’s dangerous to herself or others?

The entire left side begins to venture guesses totally unaware or alarmed that Chirpy is wearing a costume. Finally exasperated she tells the group, “I’m a super hero……I’m Portion Control Hero. I fight “the super size me villains” that lurk in salad bars, and drive- through fast food places. These villains are insidious and pose as “Value Meals”.

“If they can convince you that more is better…..they have you. Tell me, what value is there to eating empty calories and fat? Just say” super-size me” and for a mere 49 cents we will give you increased risk of heart disease and stroke. ”

“I’ve come to equip you in your battle of the bulge! You can be victorious! You can win! Say good-bye to empty calories. Raise your hand with me and repeat……”Talk to the Hand!”.
That’s Right, Portion Control Hero is here to educate you on what are appropriate portions. If in doubt look to your hand….(grasshopper…)

  1. Fist= equals 1 cup or 1 medium whole fruit
  2. Thumb (tip to base)= 1 ounce of meat or cheese
  3. Thumb tip (tip to 1st joint)=1 tablespoon
  4. fingertip(tip to lst joint)=1 teaspoon
  5. Cupped hand = 1-2 ounces of nuts or pretzels
  6. Palm (minus fingers) = 3 ounces cooked meat

Again, I say…..look to your hand!”

Me: ( sitting next to a man with the biggest hands I have ever seen) This doesn’t seem fair to me at all. His hands are as big as King Kong’s. How come he gets more?

Then with another flash of light and puff of smoke……Portion Control Hero is Gone. We are all dazed, wondering if we have had a flash back from our youth or did a miracle just happen in our midst?

Who was that masked man I want to say? But instead I ask…..if that was Portion Control Hero what was the ABC on her chest all about?

Oh, that, says the man with the large cartoon hands…..”All Bites Count!”

Well, maybe it didn’t exactly happen that way…..but it did to my way of thinking!

(BTW……I lost 4.2 pounds…WooHoo….only less than 96 to go!)

Okay

I had an okay day.  I could have eaten better.  I am doing well with my water.  I haven’t been working out this week first because of my arm and now because I have a really bad, hacky, tickle-in-your-throat kind of cough.  The good thing about the cough, if there is one, is that it makes me drink more water.

I joined the group that Misti/Mrs. Fun recommended and it is really cool!  You guys should check it out.  Leanne, it seems like it might be right up your alley!  It will count everything and anything for you.  It is awesome.

I just realized something, anytime someone posts the word awesome or reads it in a post, they should take a drink of water.    I am really guilty of over using that word, but it is hard when all of you are so awesome!  Cheers!

Weight Watchers day 1

Has anyone noticed that the first day of dieting (sorry, life style) that you are more hungry then normal.. It’s all psychological, except for the tummy grumbling but otherwise it wasn’t so bad. I am allowed 24 points a day. So far (it’s 5:50pm) and I still have 12 points left. I walked today during lunch so I got an activity point. I will work up the activity points but every step counts.  I am not counting the stairs and walking from further parking spot at work because it’s not a lot.

* So I went through my old WW stuff because I needed something for dinner that was w/in the points and wasn’t Mc’D's.     I had to eat fast because I had a doctors appt.  Found a receipe for pasta and tuna.  Yes, an actual receipe but WW style.    I made enough for leftovers for lunch tomorrow.   5 points a serving.   I gave myself 2 servings and a head lettuce w/ dressing, another 2 points and I used my 24 points for the day.  Drank the water and even got some excercise in.

*Written several hours later after my doctor appt.
