=SLOSH=

The scale was not kind to me this morning. I got on it–up 4 pounds from yesterday. Now, realistically I know it’s water weight, because my DDAVP has not worn off three days running, and when that happens, I retain a lot. I can feel it in my forearms, this tightness that almost tingles once in a while. So I know it’s water weight, but that didn’t keep me from saying a few choice words at the scale this morning!

I’ve also decided I am really looking forward to getting my gall bladder yanked out (presuming the doc decides it’s necessary.) Aside from being tired of having to be freaky about every little thing that goes in my mouth, I heard from someone who had gall bladder problems while doing NutriSystem–she got hers out and was able to go back on it. I liked NS, the food is good and it was working for me, so if I can go back to it, all the better (and honestly, it appeals to the very lazy part of me that hates cooking…)

Thump, I had my GB out in ‘99 and immediately felt 100% better. I can eat anything I want now…obviously. :) That weight will come back off, but I know how disappointing it is when you’ve been a good Thumper and then see a gain. Persevere!

Actually, I have heard of a lot of people who have had to have gallbladders removed while on NS. I don’t know enough about the program to understand why that might be. Just something to consider and maybe ask your physician about. May I ask what DDAVP is? If you don’t want to answer, I understand. Hang in there. You can do it.

I’ve heard a lot of things about NS and gallbladders. It’s an odd thing, and I know one has nothing to do with the other, such strange coincedences.

And don’t get discouraged by the scale. You said it, it’s water weight, just wait a coulple of days and all will be better.

DDAVP is a medication for diabetes insipidus (”water” diabetes…) Without it, my kidneys don’t know when to hold onto water, so they just let everythin go through…so I spend my life peeing and drinking, an the thirst is horrible.

I like for it to wear off around 6-7 in the evening so that I do shed any excess water, but the last couple of days it hasn’t…so I’m holding more water than usual. It happens once in a while, and isn’t a concern unless I keep gaining.

It wore off around 8 tonight, so I’ve gotten rid of at least some of it.

I’ve also been talking to people about NS and gall bladders. As near as we can figure, it’s the rapid weight loss. You can lose quite a but right up front on NS, and rapid weight loss can wreak havoc with your gall bladder. But we’re just guessing…

Wow. Best of luck with the procedure. And, what is it with the 4 pound loss/gain thing? That’s the exact number that I had off my weight last week when I stepped on the scale and then it was back on the next day. HA! Perhaps there is just 4 pounds floating around cyberspace trying to find its next victim? HA!

On the medication, I will have to read up on this. I am newly diagnosed as diabetic and I DRINK CONSTANTLY and pee even more. I have been like this for several years now. I never thought about it being a kidney issue.

Man, I really think I need to consider switching endocrinologists. Mine just doesn’t ask enough questions or spend much time checking me out.

Crazy mom Cat…it’s not a kidney thing, it’s a brain thing. I had a pituitary tumor that knocked out my brain’s ability to make Vasopressin, the hormone that tells the kidneys to hold water. My idneys themselves work just fine!

When the symptoms first started what we assumed was wrong ws that I was a diabetic–it’s a common symptoms between diabetes mellitus (”sugar” diabetes, or what most people think of when they hear the word diabetes) and diabetes insipidus (”water” diabetes, what I have…)

But yeah, if you still have symptoms of harsh thirst and excessive urination and your endocrinologist isn’t tracking it down–generally treatment takes care of it, or so I understand–then maybe seeing someone else, even for just a 2nd opinion, is a good idea.

I have a really good endo right now, but being military, he could eave at any time, and I’d have to totally train a new one…
