Unsure why, but by comments are coming up as from Libragirl, which is ok as that’s my blog site, but just in case anyone doesn’t realize it, I’m Libragirl.
Anyway….Saturday was easy. I was out and doing stuff, knew I was going for Pizza and therefore didn’t overeat. Today, it snowed and my sister didn’t come over and I did laundry and am sitting in my house, bored watching bad movies and basically opening and closing the cabinets wondering if eating my nieces’ baby food is bad. (Just for the record, yes) I could go out, go for a walk, but it’s really cold and windy and snowy and did I mention REALLY COLD. So that’s out. I walked the stairs today. 6 flights so that’s something. Did I mention that it’s so windy I can hear it and every once in a while it seems like there is thunder. There isn’t it just seems it because the wind is so strong.
This is frustrating. I am not hungry, I know I’m not hungry, eating out of boredom is stupid, I know that. I know other people have the same problem so what do you do?

To combat boredome eating, I had to set times for myself: breakfast at this time, lunch at that time, dinner at the regular time, and an evening snack. If I know ahead of time WHEN I’m going to eat, it helps. It also helps to know WHAT I’m going to eat ahead of time, but I’m not as good about planning that as I should be.
If I skip breakfast (as I did a couple days last week) I find that I have the munchies like crazy starting late afternoon and until I go to bed, no matter what else I eat. For me it also matters what I eat; if I have PopTarts, I’m going to have killer munchies later. Oatmeal and I’m fine the rest of the day.
I understand about the wind…it’s frequently *very* windy here, and sometimes it feels like the house is going to acheive lift off. That sound is like a cross between thunder and a train tht’s about 5 feet from blowig through a wall…

I was wondering who this new “Libragirl” was since we hadn’t been formally introduced! :winking:
As for boredom eating, I try to stay busy by being on the computer, cross stitching, sculpting, reading or anything else that keeps my hands busy. It seems to work most of the time.
You did the right thing by coming on here and blogging about it.

I am definitely an emotional eater, boredom included. Back away from the cupboards! :winking: Seriously, I have gone on the hunt before, rifling through every cupboard and drawer I could think of. What I’ve been doing lately is reminding myself of how rotten and disappointed I’ll feel afterwards if I give in, especially if I’m truly not hungry. I usually pour myself *another* glass of water and wait a half hour or so. If I still want to eat when the water’s gone, I’ll placate myself with something else that’s not so bad. A small square of cheese is a good alternative, or a hard cooked egg, which I usually keep in the fridge. Good luck!

Well, you could chew gum, or suck on a candy, have lots of water to sip through a straw, have a low calorie snack always handy, or find a hobby that keeps your hands busy. :2cents:

I drink water when I’m looking to eat out of boredom. Then my next step is to knit! It keeps my hands busy and gives me a sense of satisfaction as I make things. AND, if I get some of this weight off, I’ve promised myself a sweater

My comments sometimes come up as Phoenix, and I’ve never logged in as her anywhere! LOL - I’m not sure why it’s doing that, but there are some bug fixes in the program in a patch coming out in a week or so, so hopefully it’s been addressed.
Boredom eating is really common - my only suggestion is to keep busy and have water by your side at all times.

I open and close the cupboard doors looking for something … then I remember that it will put the weight back on and I go brush my teeth!
