Nothing Like A Little Sibling Rivalry

I have to tell you about my sister.  She is 7 years younger than me and truly is my best friend, next to my husband.  Well, she started her weight loss efforts the same time I did.  She does WW and does not exercise, I repeat does not exercise!!!  She has lost 8 lbs. compared to my 2lbs. since we started.     Here I am doing cardio and muscle toning and she loses more than me……WTH???  She is trying to convince me to join WW with her, but I told her I want to do it on my own.  UGH!!!! I am really jealous and at the same time I’m happy for her.  I’m just going to work harder at it.  Okay, now I’m more motivated.  Can’t let my little sister beat me on this one:o  Just kidding.  But really, she’s been competitive in everything she does all throughout our growing up.  And this is just another thing she’s gloating over!!!  I still love her though!!

You’ve probably lost more inches, I bet! You can kick her a$$ just as well, girlfriend! :p ;)

1. Muscle weighs more than fat. You are toning yourself and will be better off in the end because you are building more muscle which in turn boosts metabolism. Hers may be more initially, but it will be harder for her to keep it off.

2. She is 7 years younger than you. I have the same thing with my sister who is 8 years younger than me. When I turned 30, my metabolism took a nosedive and I started having thyroid problems. Give her 7 years and see if she can still drop it as quickly–I’ll venture to say she won’t be able to!

Stick with it. You are doing things the right way for long term/lifelong healthy weight. You can do it!

Late to the party to reiterate that muscles weight more than fat. You will lose inches, though. And your metabolism will be better in the end.

They’ve all mentioned the muscle/fat ratio - but don’t let that fool you, WW is a powerful program, especially in the beginning. I haven’t exercised either and while it’s taken me 9 months, I’ve lost over 50+ lbs on their plan. Imagine how much you’d lose if you were doing both. ;)

Another thought - how much more/less does she have to lose than you? That could be a factor too (not to mention the age thing and a possibly natural higher metabolism).

What Jane said. I don’t excercise much, and WW helps with the dieting. It’s a great program. Or what Thumper said is good too.

I am with CMC! Except a pound is a pound, however if you have a pound of feathers, it will look like more than a pound of gold! I would rather have a pound of gold, wouldn’t you!? The other thing is, her weightloss will start to drop off while yours will keep going. That is unless she starts exercising.

In the end it is about the exercise….You will be all buff and toned.

I like what Thumper said ….

My sister is thin. And at our Aunts funeral when I was speaking to a friend about diet and weight loss she came over and snarkily announced, “Oh, I lost 4 pounds over the holidays!”
Yes, I hate her sometimes!
She has no idea how tough it is to diet, exercise or watch ones weight fluctuate like mad. Pooh on her!
Just do what is right for you and let it go. In the end, you’ll be better off for all the exercise you do.
