Realistic Goals

That’s something I have to work on. I’ve been working on retraining myself in how I think. Moving away from the instant gratification/medicate myself with food proclivities that got me into this trouble in the first place.

I keep thinking to myself instead: if I can stick to my plan, and even when I eat off of plan (like this weekend for our anniversary dinner) always go back to the plan as well as get myself out of the house (or in the house for the matter) and off my big ass and moving…well it’s perfectly realistic to lose between 5 and 10 lbs per month. And if I do that, why I’ll be anywhere from 50-100 lbs lighter by my birthday in October.

And won’t that be a better place to be than where I am now? And where I am now (or worse) is exactly where I will be if I try to be too restrictive or if I just give up.

I’m not going to do that. I can be patient. Especially if it means being any amount lighter than I am now….instead of the same or worse.

It sounds a lot like the realizations I’m coming to as well. It’s about changing behaviors, which is so hard, but will be better in the long run. If I eat out one night, I make sure to eat less that whole day before and watch myself the next day too. It ends up balancing out in the end that way. Way to go, Sleeping Mommy! You’re making good progress!

Patience is key! And so are realistic goals. I’ve always been very impatient with myself in the past, and that’s one thing I vowed I’d work on. Good for you! :good:

I agree, and thats part of the mindset I have tried to adopt this time around. Just change the way you eat and make better choices and not be in a big hurry, and 10 lbs. a month is fine because the time goes by whether or not we diet and we might as well do things that are good for ourselves and like you said, be in a better place. I used to be really disappointed if I didn’t lose 5 lbs. a week and that is totally unrealistic, but we live and learn. Just think how nice we are all going to lose in 6 months, and that really is not that far away.

First, I would like to say welcome, you joined when I was away.

I read your posts. 2.6 lbs is a great weight loss and I think that you were dissapointed because everyone does so well the first week, and then less the following weeks, but everyone wants to do 6 lbs a week. I remember a doctor telling me 2 lbs a week is healthy otherwise you may lose muscle not fat.

You have a great attitude. Don’t punish if you don’t do well, or go off track just, say, ok, back to it tomorrow.

My goal is to lose at least 20-25 by my birthday in October.

WE CAN DO IT. :bananadance:
