Since this is my first post here, I figured I should probably give a little bit of an intro. My name is Cathy and I am a mom to Jenna (almost 5) and Cassidy (2). I am currently a stay-at-home-mom but in my “previous life,” I was a teacher.
I recently came to the stunning conclusion
that I am tired of buying jeans in the next bigger size just so I can be comfortable. I am tired of being out of shape and getting more and more out of shape the older I get. I am tired of being tired all the time!!! SO a few months ago, I made the decision to do something about it… finally! I am not an extremely overweight person, never have been. But *I* am uncomfortable with the way I look when I take a peek in the mirror.
My goal is to lose around 20 pounds… but I’ll be happy with 10-15. I’ve already lost 5 since I started (which is not counted in my goal… I still want to lose an extra 20 lbs). I’m hoping by summer, I can feel comfortable in a swimming suit. We’ll stick with a one piece though… two babies has definitey wrecked some havoc on my middle area! LOL
A couple of months ago, I told my husband he had a few choices. Either we were a)joining the Y, b)I was joining Curves, or c)we were buying some exercise equipment. A few weeks later, hubby bought a bowflex (more for him!) and a treadmill (for me!). And so it began.
My goal has been to walk on the treadmill at least 4 times a week… and so far, I’ve done pretty well keeping that goal. There have been times when I skipped more than I would have wanted to (read… laziness) but for the most part, I’ve managed to walk an average of 4-5 days a week. Not a long distance… only 20-35 minutes each time. But that’s better than nothing, right?!!? When I first got the treadmill, I decided to keep a log of how much I walked. I counted it up the other day and I’m just over 50 miles!! In about two months! Not too shabby for a former couch potato, huh?! I need to start increasing my times and speeds (which I’ve slowly been doing) and I’m hoping to eventually go back and forth between running and walking for the entire 20-30 minutes. Now, I’m lucky if I can run 2-3 minutes total! LOL But it can only get better!
Ok… well, I think that’s enough of an intro for now! I am really looking forward to being a part of this community!! Thanks for starting it up Leanne!
