No gain or loss this week. Still -6 / 24 PTG.
My mother-in-law is coming to visit tomorrow for a long weekend, which is usually nice yet stressful for me at the same time! I like to sneak away and have a little time & chocolate to myself when she’s here. This is a bad habit – the chocolate part.
What do you go for when you want to reach for comfort food but are staying true to your weight-loss goals?
10:13 am
When chocolate — and only chocolate — will do, I measure out 1 T. semi-sweet chocolate chips and savor them, one by one. 1 T. = 80 calories. It depends what I have on hand at the time, I think. A Skor bar (which I love!) has 210 calories and occasionally, I’ll give into that temptation if I have some calories left for the day.
Other than that, when the urge to munch hits, I usually just pour myself another glass of water. It doesn’t pack the punch that chocolate does, for sure, but by the time it’s gone, the craving usually is, too.

I do the same thing sort of that NancyB does. But usually a choc kiss
Actually if you like peppermint patties or junior mints, they help the choc urge and the mint is an appitite suppressent.
Drinking water helps, it’s true, by the time you finish the water, the urge is usually gone.

I bought Weight Watcher’s chocolates – they teamed up with Whitman’s and Russell Stover. They KICK ASS for chocolate.
I also bought some of the WW mini-cakes (lemon and carrot) and they are 1 pt each – and two bites, just enough to cure my cake/sweet itch.
And there’s the WW ice cream bars or sandwich for my ice cream fix.
There a few other things I have learned to substitute for my favorite comfort foods – what are your foods and maybe we can help come up with alternatives.
6:59 pm
If there are any others in addition to the chocolate.
12:50 pm
If I can’t get out of the house a book or the internet. If I have to have some food and need something sweet then I go for the 100 calorie snack packs or better yet sugar free jello or fruit.
Otherwise get away and take a walk.
7:23 am
Drink water, exercise, find a distraction such as knitting, stitching, etc. You can do it.

Thanks everyone… I need to try the WW chocolates! I’m pretty into reading at the moment, if I could just find a quiet corner to hang in! Reading keeps me from eating!

Good luck with the MIL. Honestly? I always grab coffee when I’m stressed, which is something I’m workign on. I’m going for a large large glass of water now to keep my drinking hand happy and my waist even happier.
Let us know how it goes.
