Olympic Eating Champion!

Last week I faced a crisis. It had been two weeks since I last attended a Weight Watcher meeting, and in that 14 days I had managed to make poor food choices, stress out over work situations, be physically exhausted and also gain 6 pounds.

The prospect of going back to a meeting and admitting defeat was enough to send me back to the arms of my faithful friends (little Debbie, Sara Lee, and of course Ben and Jerry!) Looking for comfort in food goes back a long way with me.

I come from a southern family. If you are from the south, you know that the Pillsbury people were right in” that nothing says lovin, like something from the oven! ” Have another biscuit is the southern equivalent to saying, “I love you!” Have some pecan pie is southern for “You are so precious and sweet .”

I come from a southern “church” background. Which means fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, green beans cooked with fatback, corn on the cob (dripping with butter), biscuits, and of course apple pie every Sunday, (unless there is a covered dish dinner after church which is even more good eating!) Southern religious folks don’t drink, cuss, smoke, or sleep around…..We just over medicate ourselves with food until we slip into unconsciousness (also known as the Sunday afternoon nap!)

The prospects of going back to a perky, peppy Chirpy was enough to make me want to throw in the towel right then and there. The weigh-in, the scale lady, and my “support” friends asking, ” How did you do?” was daunting. (However, I’m much more afraid of Leanne, Shelli, and CrazyMomCat than I am of them!)

I started my “do-over” on Monday morning knowing I had to weigh in on Thursday evening. On Thursday evening when I weighed I was up by 2 tenths of a pound which was met with a frown. Scale lady must have thought I’d had a stroke or no longer understood English as I began my “happy dance” right there at the scale. To her it was a gain…..to me it was a huge loss from the self-inflicted wound I had given myself.

The meeting was about our former eating patterns and gold plastic medals on a red, white and blue ribbon were given out for confessions of the most chocolate consumed at one time, the most hot dogs eaten, the most popcorn etc. I listen, I clapped, I cheered, and inwardly I laughed…..These people were such amateurs. So I walked away knowing that I could have blown away all my competitors by my former eating habits. I walked away knowing that I was an Olympian Eater of champion proportions and I had the figure to prove it!

I also walked away from my old lifestyle, and my old  poor choices.  I had been unusually quiet during the meeting and I waited till most people had left to approach the Chirpster.  I asked her if I could have a medal too.  She looked a bit surprised and asked “what for?” I surprised her even more by saying,  “Because I came back to Weight Watchers when I could have easily just left.”

So I have a plastic gold medal hanging on my bulletin board right now as I write this entry.  It’s a reminder that I can make good choices and I will succeed.

Day 1-2, 6-Day Plan

I may post every few days on here this week, just because I’m starting that 6-day plan that Leanne posted awhile back and I’m thinking I might need the support! Plus, I know some are looking at doing this too, so I can tell y’all how it is going.

Day 1 Observations: I have never eaten this many egg beaters in my life. My normal 1/4 cup is upped to 3/4 cup along with a 1/2 grapefruit. I had to not eat the grapefruit immediately after because I felt sick after the egg beaters. I’m not a huge fan of them anyway, and I usually really spice them up with veggies or salsa, but I’m trying to follow the plan to a “T.”

I don’t like turkey and lettuce with no dressing. No sir, I do not. It’s very bland and gag-inducing. This one will be hard to handle every day for a snack. The lunch was good and the afternoon snack was tolerable (I like tuna). Evening was quite boring having the same thing as lunch, but also the easiest dinner I’ve made in awhile since it was already prepared and read to go.

Summary Day 1: No serious hunger pains until in the evening after dinner, when I thought it was probably early enough to have the optional nightly snack of 1/2 of a grapefruit. That hit the spot. I did have all my water but also slipped in 1 glass of crystal light iced tea because I was going nuts with all that water.

Day 2:

Weigh in: What? ARE  YOU KIDDING ME? 3 pounds? (I step off and weigh again.) How could this be? I lost 3 pounds in one day. I never lose that kind of weight in day. This is nuts! OK, all doubts of not doing this are out the window. I’m back in.

The turkey slices and lettuce were excruciating today. I did cheat a little with some crystal light again today. And, I had 1 tortilla chip (literally, I did stop at 1, I swear!) with my kids at lunch because I just was so darn hungry. It tasted SOOOO good. Yesterday I wasn’t hungry, so I’m not sure if this is a delayed deal or what.  I hope tomorrow is easier. I may end up having 1 meal off of this plan on Sunday for lunch, since we always meet my in-laws after church. Since I have 1 extra half day before I weigh in after the 6-day plan, I can eat 1 more meal on this plan to make up for it then.  (The things we tell ourselves, right? Grin)

More in a few days!

6 Day Mini Makeover Results

6 DAY MINI MAKEOVER RESULTS
waist hip thigh weight
MommaK -2 in. -1.5 in. -.5 in/ea -4 lbs.
Leanne -1.5 in. -.5 in. -.5 in/L -7 lbs.

The results are in! Both MommaK and I are Body Type B. We used the 6 Day Mini Makeover menu that I posted in the recipe section. We both have a daily exercise regimen – MommaK is a jazzercize girl and I do strength training and aerobic (treadmill).

We chatted a bit yesterday about the ups and downs of the program. It really boils down to this:

Good stuff: Results, of course! Eating 5-6 times a day, each portion is just enough to get you to the next meal, the lack of refined sugars revamps the taste buds. The jeans we didn’t fit into last week fit this week!

Bad stuff: Tuna. Blech! We both hate tuna.

We both decided to end our measurements and weigh-in on the 5th day, since weekends for both of us are very busy with family so checking in now was our best bet.

It was just the kickstart that both of us needed. I was holding at a plateau, and MommaK is down to the wire on P2G, and you know the closer you get the harder it becomes.

We both saw great results, though!

MommaK’s New P2G: 5 lbs.
Leannes New P2G: 14.5/24.5 lbs. (soft/hard targets)
