Wow! It’s so nice to see all the updates from everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted too…I guess I sort of gave up on us.
And I certainly gave up on me! I believe I’m right back to Square One again, or very close to it. In January, I figured I’d be sooo close to my goal by this time. Hah!
We’ve had some rather unsettling “family stuff” crop up over the past week, and then there are the ever-present financial struggles, and all those great curve balls that Life throws at you and that you use as easy excuses.
In actuality, there’s really no better time to treat yourself well than when you’re going through a stressful time. So, I’m willing to recommit myself to a program again. I know how and what and why…I just need to DO it.
So, here we go again…resetting the numbers and making the goal more realistic, perhaps. August 21st is an important date for me this summer (one I’ll explain later), so I’ll commit myself to losing 30 pounds by that date. It’s doable…it just requires finding that inner strength again.

I know how you feel. I have been going to Weight Watchers but not really trying since my sister died. I think I am ready to recommit to myself though.

30 lbs. by August 31st is totally doable, and I know you can do it. I’m hitting it again when I get back from NY.
Have you ever considered using products to “help”? Vitamins? Supplements? What would you choose, if any?

Lynda — good luck with your new resolve!
Leanne – the only thing I’ve ever tried in the way of a “diet product” was the prescription drug, Ionamin. It’s an appetite suppressant of the Phentermine variety intended for very short term use and, while it helped with curbing my appetite, I found it made me jittery and I also had a very dry mouth, so I didn’t even finish the initial prescription.
Other than that, I’ve never tried any of the myriad products that are advertised today, though that’s not to say I wouldn’t if I found one that was affordable and safe.
I take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement IF I’m not eating as well as I should.
For me it’s mostly a matter of mind-set, I think. I actually had a very busy weekend and had a brisk, late evening walk last night — that’s a huge breakthrough for me as I’ve been unable to force myself to exercise. I really enjoyed the short hike and plan to do it again tonight. Hopefully that will help jumpstart things!
Do you have any suggestions for supplements/aids?

Well, I’ve been picking up First for Women magazine, it’s all about tips and tricks and articles about women who have done this or that and had success. They had actually contacted me to interview for their July 4th edition, but we never connected so I’ve been curious about the mag ever since.
There are a couple of supplements I’ve taken – and noticed that with consistency, they make a difference in my energy level and overal feeling like I’m making progress. In the mornings, I take an Rx and multivitamin. With breakfast, I have an Omega 3-6-9 supplement combined with Co Q10 (need to be taken with food). I don’t eat much fish so the Omega is really sorely needed, the the Co Q10 I read about, it’s an enzyme that many women are missing because we don’t eat a normal range of foods.
I got the new issue yesterday and see that Splenda is a big no-no for everyone. It can have adverse reactions and cause bloating, and sucks your energy among other things. I’ll dig into that more – but I don’t do artificial sweeteners on purpose. I’ll just have to start checking what I do buy because it seems to be a common ingredient (sucralose) in many prepackaged foods.
I’m always looking for a quick fix pill though, honestly. I hate working for it, I’d love to just take something and have all the pounds melt away. It’s part of my psyche now, I think! I’m part of the redux/phen-phen group. I was on redux for 3 months and did well, although it did weaken my heart and I’m lucky that it didn’t destroy it. I also had an Rx for bontril, an appetite supressant that you take for 2-3 months and then go off for several months or it loses it’s effects. That worked well, no side effects other than thirst – which is a good one to have!
I’ll post more when I get the chance to sit and study it all and figure out my next course of action. Variety is the spice of life, eh?
